STATE CHAMPS AGAIN!

Congratulations to our girl's basketball team for defeating Evangel 82-77 in overtime to capture their second consecutive State Championship. Kasey Grant and Lexie Gibson were named to the all-tournament team and Jasonie Guice was named toournament MVP.

While I was excited and proud to watch our Lady Chiefs hoist yet another state championship trophy yesterday, I am most proud of how they earned this championship. Few outside of this school gave them much chance of repeating at the beginning of the year, and fewer still gave them a chance when Peyton Brown went down with a season-ending knee injury. Yet, they continued to work and believe, and they fought their way through adversity and three very tough opponents to earn their state championship. And not only did they overcome the odds to earn a state title, they did it with a dignity and class that even opposing teams recognized and acknowledged. I received two e-mails yesterday, one from a parent of an Autauga player (who we beat on Tuesday night) and another from a parent of a Patrician player (who we beat last week), commenting on the class our team demonstrated. Both parents mentioned that Coaches Ward and Burden carried themselves with class and that this obviously filtered down to all of our players. Let’s all be joyful about the state title these girls earned, but let’s be mindful to put even greater emphasis on celebrating how they did it. WAY TO GO LADY CHIEFS!!
